What Software Should I Add to A New Mac For Photography

What Software Should I Add to A New Mac For Photography

Apple 17-inch MacBook Pro: The Ultimate Guide

Apple 17-inch MacBook Pro: The Ultimate Guide

The 17-inch MacBook Pro is a great desktop replacement. When I see a 17-inch model after staring for hours at my 15-inch Mac, I feel like I’m watching a movie in a theatre! I kid, of course, but the 17-inch display is strikingly large for a laptop. That large display comes at a price, of course. Weight. A full pound (0.45 kg) heavier than the 15-inch MacBook Pro, the 17-inch model also calls for a non-standard carrying case in most circumstances.

Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro: The Ultimate Guide

The 15-inch MacBook Pro is my pick for the perfect computer. It’s the computer that I personally use 95% of the time. It’s robust, easy-to-carry, fast, and a bit sexy.

Apple 13-inch MacBook Pro: The Ultimate Guide

Apple 13-inch MacBook Pro: The Ultimate Guide

The 13-inch MacBook Pro is a well-performing candidate for great photography computer. The display is smaller than I like, but I recommend the use of external displays with laptops when you’re in a relatively controlled environment such as your office or studio. It certainly doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of it’s larger siblings, but it’s a great contender. This machine will perform well for you. Just plan on adding some screen real-estate for those pixel-hogging applications such as Lightroom.

Reader Question: Can you recommend a good book on Lightroom 2?

Michal writes “I just upgraded to Lightroom 2.2 so now I would like your advice on a ‘How-To Book’ to purchase so that I can continue learning about the program…. I’m more computer-illiterate than computer-literate, so something that covers the basics in detail is important.”
