Apple 17-inch MacBook Pro Review
The 17-inch MacBook Pro is a great desktop replacement. When I see a 17-inch model after staring for hours at my 15-inch Mac, I feel like I’m watching a movie in a theatre! I kid, of course, but the 17-inch display is strikingly large for a laptop. That large display comes at a price, of course. Weight. A full pound (0.45 kg) heavier than the 15-inch MacBook Pro, the 17-inch model also calls for a non-standard carrying case in most circumstances.
It’s a bit much for me to carry around. If you’re up to the task, however, I’ll still give you the thumbs up when I see you in Starbucks.

D.O.,
I feel your pain. I’m happy to answer any specific questions you may have. What I’ve tried to do is compile the available statistics and images from Apple’s website along with my thoughts and opinions…
…to help people decide what machine they may be interested in.
Unfortunately, we don’t have access to each of the new models for real world testing, although we’re happy to share other’s experiences on the site.
Any of these three new models will run Lightroom just fine. Of course, the better processor and more RAM one can afford to add, the better performance they’ll receive.

Wondering if you are planning on adding additional content to these guides. The titles say “Ultimate Guide” but they only seem to contain specs which are probably all available on apples website. Was hoping to get some additional info to educate myself for a potential future purchase. Maybe info about how well they run Lightroom. Things like startup times, performance during heavy use of local adjustment brushes, etc. Anything other than just specs really.
Lars,
I answered you already on Twitter, but I’ll put the answer here, as well, in case anyone’s looking for it.
The antiglare display (which I prefer) does still have the grey aluminum frame rather than the black glass-to-the-edge effect that the glossy displays have. Apple includes the helpful note when choosing your screen type at the Apple Online Store:
“The actual size of the display is the same on both models. The antiglare display has a silver frame (border) around the display.”
Hope that helps.

Does anyone know if the new antiglare displays still have the (IMO not so pretty) grey frame, making the MPB looking like the first MPB?
Or if Apple has made it sexy black?
