Camera Raw 5.3 and DNG Converter 5.3 Release Candidates Now Available
Adobe has posted the release candidate versions of the Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 5.3 plug-in and the DNG Converter 5.3 on the Adobe Labs website. The direct link to information and download is http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Camera_Raw_5.3.
The Camera Raw plug-in provides easy access within Photoshop to the raw image formats produced by many leading professional and midrange digital cameras. The ‘release candidate’ label indicates that the plug-in is well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before it is distributed automatically to all of our customers. The Camera Raw team would like the community to help verify the quality of the plug-in through normal usage as this will ensure that the plug-in is tested on a diversity of hardware and software configurations not available internally at Adobe.
If you do experience an issue with this release candidate please report it to the Camera Raw User to User forum.
Earlier today, I wrote about the availability of the Lightroom 2.3 release candidate. You can read that article here.

Randall,
If you’re using Lightroom 2.5 (the most recent version) then, yes, do you have the latest raw conversion engine available (other than any alpha or beta versions that may be available at Adobe Labs).
Since you’re using Photoshop CS3, you won’t be able to upgrade to the latest Camera Raw plugin (5.5).
Check out this article for more information on Converting Digital Camera Raw Files to the Dng Format using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.
Which camera are you using? Currently supported cameras are listed here.

I forgot to say that I did get a Gravatar.
Scott,
I know that I am running the latest version of LR. Does that automatically mean that it includes the latest Raw converter from Adobe?
I recently imported approx 350 raw images & was not given the opportunity upon import to convert to .dng.
Today I got the latest raw converter for PS downloaded, but it did not come with an auto installer for my Mac. So…
I am still running Tiger & PS CS3
Would appreciate any insight you can offer.
R Elkins
btw, how does one upload a “Gravatar” to your site to ride along with these posts???
Thanks
