New Apple Laptops Coming

October 13, 2008 | | Comments 1

Apple has confirmed an event for Tuesday, October 14 where they are expected to announce updates to their notebook line.

Rumors about this event have abounded (as they seem to for all Apple product announcements), but some of the more likely features we should expect to see include (no promises here…these are just rumors):

  • New aluminum casings for MacBooks. These cases are rumored to be machined mostly out of one solid chunk or “brick” of aluminum, making them more durable, sleek, and user friendly.
  • New models and price points. The price point for an entry-level MacBook could be as low as $800. Though this model won’t be sufficient for photographers, it’s still an interesting thought. Some rumors have estimated that there will be from 8-12 base configurations with prices ranging from $800-$3100. I’ll take the $3100 one…anyone buying?
  • Wider touchpads
  • Slimmer cases
  • Keyboards similar to the MacBook Air
  • Nvidia graphics cards in MacBook line
  • There have even been rumors of screens built into the touchpads. I feel like this is unlikely, but…who knows?!?

Although Apple has far from the lion’s share of the personal computer market, Mac computers seem to be favored by photographers and other digital artists. I, myself, am a huge Mac fan and am very excited about this event.

I’ll be traveling to a photo workshop on Tuesday, so I probably won’t be posting or Tweeting about this as it happens, but I’ll be sure to put up a post Tuesday night with my thoughts on the event.

What are you hoping for in a new Mac laptop?
